mpumphre

I love solitude, peace and quiet.
I take singing lessons from a former Met chorus singer.
I have a gluten intolerance (celiac disease), and can't eat anything with gluten in it.
I have been a professional librarian for thirty years, and a public library director for fifteen years.
I love to eat and have a weight problem.
I am talkative and shy at the same time.
I think a lot, but not in an organized or logical way--I'm a lateral thinker.
I scored a zero on the sensor scale of the MBPT--not good, but I'm extremely intuitive as a result, and I like having that gift.
I long to be a creative writer but find that I'm more often an observer than a doer.
I have been to Europe numerous times with my companion, who is French.
I remember things from the distant past as if they happened yesterday.
I hate conflict, but seem to be a lightning rod for it.
I live in a beautiful part of the world--the mountains of Western North Carolina, near Asheville.
I tend to overdo things--including this description of myself!

Biography
Born in Carlisle, Kentucky. Son of a high school agriculture teacher and a housewife. The youngest of four sons. Family moved back to parents' home near Somerset, Kentucky when I was eight years old. Good student except for math and science--but too disorganized to study growing up or read the reading assignments. This continued through college and graduate school. Became a professional librarian in 1979, and got organized. Worked in a library at an institution for the mentally disabled. Worked in a close security state prison. Worked as an institutional library consultant at state libraries in South Dakota and South Carolina. Have worked since 1994 as a public library director in Polk County, NC. Live in Transylvania County, NC with my companion of eighteen years, a landscape supervisor at a golf resort. We live in a faux chalet on the side of a mountain in the woods, and have a nice garden. Am ten years from retirement.
