It’s because, for some time, I was friends with a Christian man. From time to time, he would let me know that I would burn in the fires of hell for all eternity for saying I did not know. For agnosticism.
If someone is Christian, or whatever faith, that is their business. It is not my belief, but I do not comment, as it is not my business.
Yet in my history of engagement, so many of faith tell me that my lack thereof is sinful, problematic, that I am corrupted, or lost.
I do not take this personally, for they are talking about themselves, and treating me as means, not end.
That said, I tolerate it no longer. I do not want to hear that which is not my business. If my thinking is problematic, that is their problem, not mine.
So when the trespass occurs, I now choose boundary enforcement.
If and when they continue to engage, I make it clear I do not wish to.
Too many times in my life, as an E9, I have chosen to go along to get along. At this time, I choose otherwise. Too often being quiet, too often trampled. No more.
Best to You,
Ian
