Do you like DnB and Dubstep?

I find each song of DnB and Dub so facinating and different, I get exited each time I hear a new 1 because I have no idea what is going to happen in the song. I love the huge build ups and the massive drops in the music. I get amazing visuals and experiences with it in like a story mode also. *Epic flying engaged.*

It's weird because of how I am currently, this music would generally have never ever appealed to me, but once listenening to it without my consent through my sisters loud car speakers throughout 45 minute journeys we had, i've grown to really enjoy it.

I remember my twin sister talking about dubstep not so long ago. That she totally loved it and was going to dubstep clubs all the time to go out and dance. This is in the Netherlands btw :P. I don't feel I have a great personal preference when it comes to specific genres~ But I guess it has to be "dance-able" and at least a bit fast paced. After listening to these songs I was surprised I kind-of recognised them..... well anyways I guess I'm good with dubstep xD.

I can't understand the appeal of dubstep now matter how hard I try. It's like an entire genre built around one, simple idea - that being the drop of a modulated, heavy bassline and everything else in the song exists solely to cradle that. I suspect you may need to hear it in a live setting to really appreciate it or something. But as it is, I get really annoyed with almost any dubstep song after about 1 minute.

That's what makes it so exiting, you just wait for that intense build up and a sudden release of all this amazing sound. You never know what to expect. You won't enjoy it half as much if you didn't have good speakers with great bass. But I know that you probably do have some pretty epic speakers. xD

It also helps a lot with workouts, a lot. If you are feeling really tired and then you feel the song building up, you also start building up.

I've just grown up to really appreciate it for how different each song is, you know the amazing part is coming, but you have no idea how it will happen, or how it will sound. It really is a completely different genre from many others.

I can certainly appreciate this. It may just be that dubstep came about after I'd already gone through my phase of loving huge buildups and drops which, in my era, was stuff like breakbeat, electro or more "accessible" acts like The Chemical Brothers, etc. I remember being in clubs on many nights getting lost in music like that and feeling that it was all epic, etc.

Anyway, I'm not a huge fan of Pendulum but it's one of the artists that went through my mind when perusing your songs in the OP. Mostly their first album ("Hold Your Colour") as that was when they were really into DnB and hyper compressed sounds, etc. If you're inclined, check it out.

Yeah, I understand where you're coming from. I have all of Pendulems songs but after a while like most DnB and Dub it gets boring because you know what is coming and how it sounds. I am constantly on the hunt for new songs just so I can listen to them a few times and move on. But it's nice to keep them so you can come back on a later date and experience the renewed exitement yet again.

I dig it! It's not big where I live so maybe I'm not tired of it yet. :) I could see if you had it on your itunes how it may become lackluster but a few songs here and there are very exciting to my ears.

I've tried very hard to get into dubstep and some forms of DnB but I just can't do it. There is always an element or two to it that just kills the music for me. Bass is very important to me in a lot of music, and I do somewhat enjoy the bass in it, but it's not organized in a completely appealing way to me. Moreover, a lot of the sounds they use to go along with it often sound too abbrasive and I just can't get into it. I wish I could, but alas it just isn't my cup of tea.

I did check out your songs you liked though, and the third one, task horizion, I actually do enjoy. Not sure if I can get into it, I might look into it more, but on the surface some of it is appealing. It's not too "fast" like a lot of DnB is, and it's fast in a way that I just can't derive an "internal pattern" for, and that is a requirement for me. It also is missing that higher pitched "whining" sound that a lot of dubstep seems to have.

In the end there are a lot of interesting sounds in these genres, but they are "ruined" by other things. The closest I could get to dubstep or stuff that sounds remotely like this would be crystal castles (whom I love).

I like a lot of these, though I wouldn't really put them on my ipod.

I like this one, even if it's way too popular; apparently.

(This is a dubstep, correct? I'm not too familiar with Dubsteps in general.)

I'm not into it presently, but if I were to invest some investigation it seems like something I could very much enjoy.

I have never heard of such and I can't say its made an impression so far.

I liked D'n'B back in the day right when Jungle morphed a bit and it was born, but I’m not one to seek it out, and if I did, it would put me on a nostalgia trip.

I’ve liked a handful of dubstep tracks, especially the ones that are stylistically close to early-mid aughts grime scene, and ones that are more dubby than two-steppy.

That said, it is fun to produce dubstep wobbles either via analog modular synthesis or with digital tools where you can perfectly lock the modulations to the drums and the whump of the sidechained compressor.

cheers,
Ian

Well that's certainly the signature of it, but there's so much variety. I prefer it to DnB as there's more melody and it's less focused on the drums going as fast as possible, and I prefer it to trance as it sounds more raw. It also came about through underground clubs in the UK and not through any media other than the music itself which I find somewhat admirable.
