Ethical dilemma of "Gone baby gone"

I will put pertinent info in spoilers but if you haven't watched the movie, read at your own risk.

So the other day we briefly (actually it was like at least a 2 hour discussion that dragged a bit) about ethics.

The movie ends with an moral dilemma that most people who watch it are torn on. It asks: do you do what is right by the law or are there circumstances where the end justifies the mean? Do you do something inherently wrong to do what you perceive to be ultimately right?

Ben afflecks character makes his choice. Do you agree with him?

personally I feel like I would have done the opposite of affleck and walked away. Plus he does some other weird morally apprehensive stuff like killing that guy earlier in the movie so it's hard for me to understand why he made this decision anyway
