So the other day my daughter asked me if I could buy her some of that cereal that the rabbit is always trying to take from the kids. Definite no-brainer. She obviously meant Trix. How did I know? Because I've been watching and listening to that commercial since I was her age. =X I went out and got it for her and the second she sat in front of that bowl I heard her say, "Silly rabbit, Trix are for kids." I thought it was cute and funny. A little scary, but more or less adorable.

Sooooo, here is what we're to do... Lets not go all serious and talk about the true brainwashing capabilities of propaganda in our media and blah blah blah. This is not a serious thread.

Lets instead just have some light hearted fun and post some of the things that have made it from our generation to the next through silly catch phrases and "good" marketing. Post a video if you can find one. Post something you remember dying to have when you were a kid because the commercial was just that awesome. Post a picture. Or if all else fails just tell a story about something you remember wanting as a child because you saw it advertised somewhere. And did you get it?

Here are a few favorites... With the Trix being the first:

Super Mario Bro's (the song everyone knows):

And what I wanted =X I couldn't find the right commercial, but I was dying for a super soaker. =X :

Uhm, I'm not sure what this thread is asking.

So, brainwashing is a subconscious process of which we are unaware...

Yet the title asks me to make a statement concerning my levels of brainwashing...

Uhm...

Have a think about it.

gonna make a list now, get vids later..

poggles
polly pocket
micromachines
trix
lucky charms (theyre magically delicious)
Litebrite
My little pony
Rainbow brite

Actually Melkor, this thread is one in which you do not have to have a think about it... that is unless you're thinking about what silly commercial really got you going when you were a kid. In that case, think away. *le sigh*

no one better lay a finger on my butterfinger

If this thread does not require thought, I feel it is rather useless, and must decline to attend.

:m170: Oh Melky... things can just be about fun sometimes. :m096:

Those jingles get ingrained in your head.
I still know the McDonalds Big Mac jingle from the early 70's.
TV show theme songs are just as bad.

Litebrite. Wow. That was one I had as a little kid in the 60's.

How about Hot Wheel cars.
Etch-A-Sketch
Trix and Lucky Charms were both mentioned, I think Kellogg's Frosted Flakes would be on Par.
"They're Grrrrrrrreat!"
Seen ads for the game Operation recently.
The game Monopoly is also one that has spanned many generations.

Products:

Flinstones Vitamins. WTF? such an arbitrary idea but impervious to time, it seems.

Media:

The theme to Cheers is buried in my reptile brain.

Idioms:

"Absolutely!" Instead of the so pase "yes."

Funny, not that long ago a coworker and myself were talking about those, (how it came up, I don't know) and wondered what relevance the Flintstones would have to kids these days.
Do they only associate them with the vitamins?
Or is the show still widely aired?

God, those things were so dangerous. I twisted my ankle many many times on them.

Aw, but I really want to! I had an entire spiel about it too, until I realized you said that's not what you want to discuss here.

Oh well, I can deal with disappointment. For some reason, I remember these commercials...

Oh geez... Nostalgia

Haha I remember all of these soo well! The only thing I ever owned was connect four though. I always wanted moonshoes but my mom wouldn't buy them because she said I could only use them outside and not in the house (and yes I would have used them in the house so she was smart :D).
