The director died after a heart attack in New York, his spokeswoman said.
Mr Hughes was the director of such successful films as Ferris Bueller's Day Off, The Breakfast Club, and Planes, Trains and Automobiles.
He was also a leading script writer, penning films such as Pretty in Pink and Home Alone.

I liked his films, especially Ferris Bueller's Day Off, one of my all-time favorites. It's a shame he died this young. While he hadn't directed since 1991, he had continued writing scripts all along.

aww... he did a great string of 80s movies!

The Breakfast Club was probably my all-time favorite out of all his movies (maybe because I was in high school when it came out and I felt like the freaky goth chick). His other movies really didn't do much for me - but it is sad. My generation is losing all of our media icons!

I loved the Breakfast Club. But, I also liked 16 Candles, too. Yes, I'm a suck. :P

Goodbye John Hughes

Oh, sorry! *blushes yet again*I didn't realize there was already a thread for this........

So, here's my two cents...

If you can find it, post your favorite John Hughes moment.....

Try to pick only one to give someone else a chance to put another, or if you find a nice tribute put it up.

I just found out about John Hughes passing and feel really saddened by it...

Here is a screencap tribute I found...
