Well, I think this sounds great. New Mexico has had some crazy severe droughts in recent years...it does not surprise me they are researching something like this. I'm sure they are examining how it interfaces with native species, too, as invasives have wreaked havoc all over New Mexico. The existing climate change models seem to indicate heightened trends for drought in their part of the world...I'm sure because of this there is plenty of funding avaialble for this type of research.
