So, so much better than Depp's Willy Wonka, in my opinion, and just a talented man all around.
He had struggles with Alzheimer's though, the same as my grandpa, and it's so painful by the end. At least he isn't suffering anymore.
May he rest in peace.

Amazingly gifted actor and comedian, I think his performance as Willy Wonka was a tour de force. He completely mastered the role, watching it as a child it was captivating and partly terrifying. What I think is so great is now, is seeing some of the personal stories emerge about his kindness and generosity, loved the James Corden story, and as for why he started so young as a comedian ? Heartwarming and heart braking in almost equal measure. What a gift he shared with the world. Starred in some real 'turkey's' at times and still brought something even to them. Eighty three and a life well lived though, he really had something special.
