my all time favourite is "The Sound of Music". i love the melody. i think the theme treated in the lyrics is sublime and religious, but also somehow filled with "child of nature" type openness, innocence and exuberance that has an irresistible quality of accessible appeal. i like the way she talks about the effect of the hills on her heart. the song seems so good that it is almost unfair to the other songs.

my other favourite is "Climb Ev'ry Mountain". i always make fun of the artist that sings in the film whenever i watch it and for days afterwards, because she sings in a very particular style that is now considered unfashionable. but i genuinely love the way that the vocal part rises through the course of the performance, because it is climbing until it reaches the highest note in a way that resonates with the theme of the lyrics. and i like the ideas about the importance of finding your passion in life, that its worth doing all that hard work just to find the passion that can capture and sustain you.

You have asked me sir a very difficult question. :D I like so many. My favorites growing up were "Do Re Me", "Lonely Goatherd", "16 Going on Seventeen," "My Favorite Things," and "Edelweiss." How could I possibly choose? Although the songs chosen were great, I do think "Climb Every Mountain" has a lasting and uplifting message, so I am tempted to choose it.

edit: Oh, how could I forget "So long, Farewell"? *wonders if she lost her mind*

its hard to choose because they all have special merits that sometimes make them seem like they are each in a class completely of their own. the film is filled with such unforgettable music and many of the performance aspects are so polished that they really take the songs to another level.

there are a couple of things that seem a little bit regrettable about the film. Christopher Plummer does not compare to Julie Andrews vocally, but maybe he shouldnt have to, because of course she is the focus of the story. but actually sometimes i dont know about Christopher Plummer... i read that he was a bit difficult on set because he complained that the part he was playing was too simple and did not give him a chance to shine, and i think that is unprofessional, and i think it shows a little bit in his performances. also, the music becomes repetitive towards the end with too many reprises. but on the other hand maybe the reprises were better than trying to write "getaway" music to deal with such serious and evil settings as nazi occupation.

Climb every mountains a belter but i'd have to go with Maria with that great line in it: ''how do you hold a moonbeam in your hand?''

Ahh the Sound of Music!
So many great tunes it is hard to single one out, but have to go with My Favorite Things.
