I haven't read through the whole thread, just the opening post. Based on the conversation it looks like she had an extreme over reaction to the phrase "has me pulling my hair out" which I imagine you used off-handedly and not in a way to insult her or bring things up it's just a common phrase and in your passion you probably weren't even thinking about the words and the implications they could have on her. However she acted offended which escalated the situation making you put your thorns up in retaliation. It's a natural response to be defensive when someone blindsides you with an attack you weren't expecting. In retrospect apologizing and saying you used the expression off-offhandedly probably would have been the best course of action, but at the same time her taking offence to such a common phrase in the first place seems way over the top and completely unnecessary, it's obvious that you weren't poking fun at her or trying to get her goat.
