Are video games becoming too real?

I think the biggest mind-altering effect gaming has is listening to online players cuss at you constantly. Once upon a time I never said the f word, then I got into online play. Conversely, I was a violent little preteen but I mellowed after I grew up. Gaming has never made me want to even touch a weapon. If I'm in the same room as a gun I whimper and run off.

What I DO think that'll happen with more and more realistic games is the greater chance of first-time-seeing nausea when you do kill something and see its guts splattered everywhere. I get sick seeing close-ups of blowing heads off in fallout 3, but if they were as detailed as the OP's NPCs, I couldn't play.

Fallouts gore doesn't really bother me. But if it turned into reality gaming, like y'know in those movies... Simulation rooms. I'd probably leaving gaming altogether.
I actually found Fallout 3 humourous watching your shotgun blast apart someones skull in slow mo at point blank range... but thats just my demented homour...

I have a particularly weak stomach, so I am at the extreme end of the reactions of it. Your reaction is pretty much standard among fans :).
