INFJs - Messengers and Guardians?

Messengers

Novellists, poets, songwriters, musicians, card writers, photographers, film directors, mystics, playwrights, designers, arts and crafts, craftsmen etc

Guardians

Educators, Counsellors, Policemen, Philosphers, Soldiers, Humanitarians, Gardeners, Psychologists, Medics, Anthropologists, Librarians etc

With 'Meaning' being the common denominator.

Messenger - communicating self-expression
Guardian - nurturing and protecting the right to be, and be better, for things, nature, people

What do you think?:m075:

I see nothing wrong with this at all, with the exception of "communicating self-expression" from a "messenger". We sometimes are speaking what we feel we should be sharing, but it may not be actually coming from "self". A messenger can be a deliverer.

I do not see where the OP states this as an all-encompassing, full-meaning definition of an infj. I have certainly read over the past few years where these would definitely apply____the messenger and guardian types. I have been a messenger and a guardian.....may still be at times.

The only reason career suggestions exist is for people who are looking for a rewarding career field, but haven't chosen one, and therefore are seeking advice. It's not designed as a limitation on type. It's designed as a helpdesk for the question "What careers should I look into?" which is one of the basic goals of the MBTI approach - to provide life coach advice, to help people of different types communicate more clearly, and to foster greater synergy with professional 'teams'.

I can relate to the Guardian description.. I sort of feel like protecting others and things is a motivating force in my life... I have a compulsion to speak up for the underdog.

But I'm not going into those fields listed.. I'm going into PR..which may seem kind of shocking for an NF to get into, especially an introverted NF..

But I am going this path because I think companies should behave responsibly and honorably toward their employees and the public, and my socially conscious ideals are relevant to today's business world.

In that field, I could have a huge influence on a company's internal and external culture.. But I mainly want to do non-profit to ensure that charities and shelters and other humanitarian organizations can continue to thrive and provide services.

I did once seriously consider going into law enforcement and then education, though.

SEE GUYS. we have successfully derailed the thread. YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYy

just me Yes, you're right regarding "delivering" a message. I did think of putting "communicating a vision" - but that sounded a tad grandiose. :md:

I'm not saying INFJ is better than any other type. I'm not defining an INFJ by their career. I'm not defining a person by being an INFJ. I'm not saying that an INFJ has to work in these few examples of areas or that any other type can't do them. It isn't exclusive or mutually exclusive.

It is simply a pattern I have observed. With the common denominator of being happiest when finding meaning in their work. And that meaning is often being a messenger or being a guardian.

Even the psychics...

Your image broke :( although I can kind of guess what it was from the title XD

As far as psychics go: I use a variety of (free) techniques to keep on top of my psychosomatic systems but I'm pretty careful not to let myself believe there's a greater-world effect to them.

Oh my. You just opened the can of psychic worms...

... I suppose it was bound to happen since the subject kept getting bounced around the thread.

Did you ever hear about the study that was done at Purdue? They had a large sampling of population and put them through all the standard "psychic" tests like 'guess the card', 'predict the dice', etc. and then set about defining the subjects in as many regards as they could, age, IQ tests, astrological charts, etc. The most common factor in the top 5% performers? INFJs. I always found that fascinating, especially since I've had a lot of inexplicable phenomenon ever since I was a kid.

However, I'm finding that these things are only more common in INFJs and not the other way around. I have several friends who have similar occurances (two of them drastically more often) and are by no means INFJs. Many of the INFJs here have never had anything of the sort, and I'd assume that there were some INFJs in the Purdue test that didn't perform very well. End result, I think INFJs are the most likely type to experience these sorts of things, but that might just be as simple as being the type most likely to be open to it.

As an Enneagram 5, I'm guessing the possibility isn't something you're open to without solid evidence? I would love to hear about the systems you mentioned.

INFJ's are human. What they do can apply to any MBTI type.

Agreed. Being an Infj doesn't make me or anyone else on here special. I will say that Infj's seem more compassionate than other types. But thats based solely on what I have seen on here and in my Infj friend off of the forum. I am sure there are some assholes out there somewhere!
