I was not joking but obviously I have made some sort of mistake. I previously asked what EH does for a living and he explained, not much of anything except spinning his wheels and getting drunk occasionally. I took that to mean that he does not work. This goes to show, you should never make assumptions, because one thing can always mean another.

Sales reps make shitloads of money and most don’t have an unhelpful communications degree anyhow.
Same with welders who are really good.
It’s not hard to find a niche to make good money, it’s finding one where you don’t wanna blow your brains out at the end of the day.
Anyhow...you should hear about how he’s going to make God pay for all he has done.

I don't think everyone needs a degree, or needs a degree to do what they're interested in. In EH's case it probably couldn't have hurt. I don't know what he was doing, but he hasn't done it in years.

Having said that, there is a great deal of work that is very valuable to society that can't function without the academic establishment. It's impossible to overrate this establishment because it is essential to society. A robust scholarly establishment is basically the difference between a medieval and a modern society.

We can already see how the propaganda machine on the right has equated higher education with liberalism and liberalism with negative connotations...fairly evident in EH’s own posts of hate speech.
It’s all part of the plan...tell them they need a college degree then but put them in debt for the rest of their lives to do so, and then make sure that all those jobs in the graduating field are severely limited.
Keeps the serfs from moving up the ladder.

I was being sarcastic when I said that. Meaning, the job I currently find myself in is completely meaningless.

Agree. Higher education should be state supplemented and accessible to everyone. Otherwise wealth becomes hereditary and equality becomes impossible. IMHO.

Raising awareness is where real change starts. It's impossible for change to happen if people are not aware.

I think @invisible is absolutely right. Peaceful, legal, marches and demonstrations are part of a healthy democracy. Whether you agree with the cause or not.

I think MLK achieved quite a lot with the Marches he organised, and led. But perhaps you take a different view. The "juveniles" you refer to have included professional scientists, graduates, educated intelligent people.

Look at the history of marches in USA, not China. Have they ever worked?

I actually agree marching would be ineffective here but not because it's too disruptive. The problem with marching is that it isn't putting anything new on the table for this issue. No additional reasons for people to care. Best-case scenario is getting donations from the marchers to get more people to do things like install solar panels in red states for a stipend, which then could lead to people asking questions. Or some sort of challenge where you show your electric bill and someone who uses fluorescent bulbs shows theirs.

On the other hand you could get a lot more disruptive and try and get in the way of the operations of oil companies that might have reason to tell Trump global warming's a hoax.

That said it's good to let democratic candidates know that voters care about this. I wish I knew how to get this much support for the NIH since I think it's possibly more important.
