Members leaving due to Liberal Bias (Part 2)

Would I be an evil dictator if I closed this thread since the subject was pretty much over with, and had been sitting quietly, until the thread was resurrected about 20 days after its last post?

Might just have to accept the rotten produce tossed at me, but I'm not sure anything productive can be gained here.

Since when has "productivity" been a metric by which threads are judged? Conservatives have been arguing that they are being shut out of online communities. I opened the original thread to give voice to whoever felt that they were being marginalized by a liberal bias. Somehow closing the thread only reinforces that notion.

That wasn't the metric by which the thread was judged. The metric used to judge the thread was how much poo people were flinging at each other, which was a lot. The original premise of the thread had nothing to do with it, given that absolutely no one was even discussing it. Not a single person. If members had been engaging in civil discourse about conservatives potentially leaving the forum while some staff member just traipsed in and closed the thread suddenly, then yes, that would be reinforcing that notion. However, that wasn't what was happening. If anyone would actually like to talk about that, feel free.

Since no one was actually talking about the thread's premise, the only notion closing the thread reinforced is that it's not productive to fling shit at your fellow human beings.

Seems counter productive to put out that expectation after you just closed the thread on that topic --> which is where that would have been talked about, btw.

I don't think there is value to closing threads just because people are having off-topic fun. But leave it to the moderators...

Which is where no one was talking about it, yes. If any staff had objections to it being discussed, then the thread would have been closed before, not later on when no one was discussing it. It's not an "expectation," btw. I don't expect anyone to do anything. They can if they want to. We are also similarly not discussing it here, which is supposed to be a continuation of Part 1.

just because people are having off-topic fun

I, too, usually find heaping shit on people to be a fun diversion.

But leave it to the moderators...

Well, if you insist...

OK, I just read most of the previous thread from whence it was revived. Seems that the discussion, while heated, was inline with the threads intention.Close and sanitize whichever thread you like, its your forum.
