I had quite a few of Micheal Jackson's albums, including some that he made as a young boy. Then one day, someone broke into my home and stole all of my music CDs. I never did replace them. But I really enjoyed his music.
When I consider the immensity of humanity that has come before me, even in my own genetic and ancestral line, a hundred thousand generations have been here ahead of me. I'm just a speck in that storm. And then I see 7 billion others just like me, and I feel even smaller. Of all my ancesters before me, only a tiny fraction of them have been alive in the time of written and recorded history, and they have all vanished from the Earth, except as dust.
You may even imagine that "great men" that we praise and honor today will have their names etched into the winds of time, but alas, they are only the winds and winds remember little except that we were here. Their names will be lost, just as the names of those who roamed the Earth 1,000,000 years ago. Perhaps they had names and their names were remembered for a time.
So if you want change to the world, just remember that you can only change that little bit of the world that's around you, and only for a short period of time. No matter how big or famous or powerful you are, everything you are, were or will be, will get buried in the deep well of time.
On the other hand, our own ancestral history is written in our DNA. And if you don't pass that on, your history will disappear.
Best to simply enjoy the here and now. As Freddie Mercury sang, "Don't try so hard". I have their (Queen) albums too.
