Post your Enneagram

Has anyone ever taken the two-question enneagram test? At the very least, I think it's a very informative place to start -- no wings, no variants, just the core of what the enneagram is about: instinct. Sorry for plagiarizing.

Question 1: Choose A, B, or C from these three statements:

(A) I have tended to be fairly independent and assertive: I've felt that life works best when you meet it head-on. I set my own goals, get involved, and want to make things happen. I don't like sitting around. I want to achieve something big and have an impact. I don't necessarily seek confrontations, but I don't let people push me around either. Most of the time, I know what I want and I go for it. I tend to work hard and play hard.

(B) I have tended to be quiet and I'm used to being on my own. I usually don't draw much attention to myself socially, and it's generally unusual for me to assert myself all that forcefully. I don't feel comfortable taking the lead or being as competitive as others. Many would say that I'm something of a dreamer -- a lot of my excitement goes on in my imagination. I can be quite content without feeling I have to be active all the time.

(C) I have tended to be extremely responsible and dedicated. I feel terrible if I don't keep my commitments and do what's expected of me. I want people to know that I'm there for them and that I'll do what I believe is best for them. I've often made great personal sacrifices for others, whether they know it or not. I often don't take adequate care of myself. I do the work that needs to be done and relax (and do what I want) if there's time left.

Question 2: Choose X, Y, or Z from these three statements:

(X) I am a person who usually maintains a positive outlook and feels that things will work out for the best. I can usually find something to be optimistic about and different ways to occupy myself. I like being around people and helping others be happy -- I enjoy sharing my own well-being with them. (I don't always feel great, but generally I try not to show it!) However, keeping a positive frame of mind has sometimes meant that I've put off dealing with my own problems for too long.

(Y) I am a person who has strong feelings about things -- most people can tell when I'm upset about something. I can be guarded with people, but I'm more sensitive than I let on. I want to know where I stand with others and who and what I can count on -- it's pretty clear to most people where they stand with me. When I'm upset about something, I want others to respond and get as worked up as I am. I know the rules, but I don't want people telling me what to do. I want to decide for myself.

(Z) I am a person who is self-controlled and logical. I don't like revealing my feelings or getting bogged down in them. I am efficient -- even perfectionistic -- about my work, and prefer working on my own. If there are problems or personal conflicts, I try not to let my feelings influence my actions. Some say I'm too cool and detached, but I don't want my private reactions to distract me from what's really important. I'm glad I don't usually show my reactions when others "get to me".

If you selected A and X, you are a 7.
If you selected A and Y, you are an 8.
If you selected A and Z, you are a 3.
If you selected B and X, you are a 9.
If you selected B and Y, you are a 4.
If you selected B and Z, you are a 5.
If you selected C and X, you are a 2.
If you selected C and Y, you are a 6.
If you selected C and Z, you are a 1.

Thoughts, anyone? ;-)

I identify most with option B, so it's really no wonder I'm somewhere between a 9 and a 4. (5 is appealing, and not totally unlike me, but not my primary.)

Also, the description of 8s overall is much less "rational" than I once expected.

I chose C and Y, which indicates type 6. This is the type I currently feel most resonance with, so for me at least, it seemed fairly accurate.

Which second section did you feel best described you--X, Y, or Z?

I'm having a bevy of technical difficulties in addition to all those things I should be doing in real life, so I'll keep this a bit brief. My gut still says I'm 4, because B/Y comes the closest. Suffice it to say that I used to be somewhere between 4 and 9, but now 6 has mysteriously added itself to the mix. It's the arrow of stress for 9s, so maybe that's why I'm having more of a reaction to it than ever.

I fail to differentiate between some of the types, even after much reading. There are the types who are like me (4, 9, 6), somewhat like me (5, 2. 7) and not like me (1, 3, 8). There are also types that I fail to differentiate. 1 and 3 are very similar, and they're also arrows of growth for 4s and 9s and the corporate American ideal shadow that I contend with in myself and others and work. Also, 2s, 6s, and 9s all seem to give their identities and power away to difficult circumstances and people in much the same way. If anyone could help sort that out, I'd be very grateful.

Furthermore, I understand wings (I'm more 4w5 than 4w3, more 9w1 than 9w8, and more 6w5 than 6w7), but I can't for the life of me determine so/sx/sp variants. Aren't all of us forced to play the role of all three, depending on the circumstances, or is it just a way of determining relative extraversion/intraversion? I once read that the sexual variant isn't necessarily about sex, but one-to-one relationships.

I'm confuzzled, but I'll keep reading, both here and abroad.

Now that I've uncovered the mysterious soul behind the flux mask, I can understand why you'd be torn between 4 and 9. As an external observer I couldn't say whether I'd associate X or Y more strongly with my experience of you.

Based on external observation, consideration of stress and growth direction types, and blind insight, I'd throw a guess at your type being 4.

I don't know much about the variants, but I can say that I also understand the sexual variant not to be really about sex, but about a primacy in motivations of intimate relationships.

I'm a 4w5. When I first discovered Enneagram it took me a long time to decide between 4w5 and 5w4; it was a close call. Is it unusual for INFJs to be very 5-ish?

I don't think it's rare for INFxs to be 5s when you consider that a 5's basic desire is truth and their basic fear is incompetence (projection of ESTx shadow?). On enneagraminstitute.com, there are some identifiable Fs as 5s (with my MBTI guesses in parentheses): Jane Goodall (major INFJ/5!), Glenn Gould (INFJ), John Lennon (xNFP), Kurt Cobain (INFP), Bjork was taken off this list (INxP) .

Well, I can't discard the idea of me as a 6, but both tests thought I was a 4, with 6 as a close second. This is surprising, but it makes sense too.

Similar minds result: Balanced 5 (This is the first test that doesn't type me as a 4!). SP variant.

I picked B & Y at flux's test = 4.

So I think I'm a 4w5. The first description I read of 4s (can't remember where) bothered me a bit because it seemed to focus a lot on unhealthy 4s and not healthy ones.

One test said I was a 2w3. The other test said I was a 1so/sp/sx. I will have to try in a week to see if they are different.

5w4/6 sp/so/sx

though i tend to type as 4w5 sp/so/sx just as often

I am a four :m149: - with colorful speckles of 1, 3 and 5, how is that? Variant is sx/sp, all depends on the test.
Also I wonder if one can get the true result only if one is truly balanced... I know my 1 preferences have a touch of "neuroticism".

I find 7 and 9 most attractive, maybe I'd like to be more like that.

Edit:

Thoughts, anyone? ;-)

Here I prefer A, B and Y,Z - but X is good too - oh, the possibilities... I couldn't decide, I am too ambivalent for a two question test... can't I have all of them?:m200:

Lurker: I pondered this in a PM a few weeks ago. What in the world is a self-preservational 7? Didn't you type as an INTJ recently? Doesn't that make you some sort of typological four-leaf clover?

I think of 7s as being ESFP, ENFP, ESTP. But now it says you're more Ne. What was your "through the looking glass" moment?

Well, I only took the first one from the first link because I'm sort of busy and it said 9w1.

I'll take the other test later. :)

I thought I was INTJ when I first joined this site, I was deluded. I'm most probably ENTP, I don't have it in my profile cause I got shitty with a comment directed towards me about NTs, don
