Should the government be able to turn off the internet?

Hahahaha.

Exactly what would happen if the interest ceased...

"The episode begins with the Marsh family performing various online activities: Stan browsing, Shelley iChat-ing with her online boyfriend Amir from Montana, and Randy watching Internet pornography on Apple Safari. Sharon sends them all to bed for the night, but the next morning they discover "there is no internet". They then hastily walk to the Broflovskis' house to use their internet connection, but soon find that the internet does not work there, either. Both families head to Starbucks for free wireless internet, but when they arrive it soon becomes apparent that the entire town's internet connection is down. The TV news, which has nothing to report without the Internet, gives vague rumors of Internet access in Silicon Valley. After eight days without internet, the Marsh family decides to "head out Californee way". As they spend the night in a transient camp, a man delivers a monologue that California is so crowded from other travelers that there is "not enough internet to go around."
When the Marshes reach California, they are placed in a Red Cross "Internet refugee camp" which is so overcrowded that each family is only permitted 40 seconds of Internet access a day,"

Lol. This has been going around for AGES. Five years ago they talked about doing the same thing, but it won't happen. It goes around and around and around. I could probably find it on Snopes.

But seriously, no. The Internet shouldn't be "Turned off." It might be regulated, but it won't happen completely.

Besides, regulation has already happened. Look up the USA PATRIOT ACT. After 911 emails, phones, and computer security was severely tightened. Certain emails were monitored. Libraries were monitored. People who checked out certain books from libraries or used internet searches for certain topics were monitored. So, it's another conspiracy issue. Things have already changed...we just don't realize it or notice it.

If the turn off the net there will be hell to pay.

And I doubt that the all the tier one networks who make money off the Internet would comply. Neither would many tier 2 networks such as cable companies.

If this where to happen I would seriously protest and I'm sure others would too.
