Spider Videos

I've noticed that! I've actually fallen in love with them over the last 6 months. Do you have any spiders as pets?

Nah, I've had various kinds as 'guests' that I've taken care of for a while but I try to avoid keeping animals as pets (except my cat and my fish)

I've had argiopes, an H. lenta with babies for a short while, and have visits from lots of jumping spiders, mostly audax around here - they like the bugs around the porch light going out to the back yard and they like to visit me when I go out there.

How do they visit you? Do they just get curious and come out to stare?

Yup, well it's typically one at a time per year that hangs out there, usually a female but yeah she always comes out to stare at me. :mlove2:

They're really cute when they look at you with those eyes in person.

I can only imagine. I was so surprised watching these vids that a spider could melt my heart...it sounds so wrong. How big are the ones on your porch? I've only encountered super tiny ones.

Audax can get a pretty good size for jumpers around here, about thumbnail sized. We also get very tiny jumpers. Habronattus can be very tiny, some are only about 5mm.

This is about how big they get.

I hate these spiders. I kill them if I find them in the house. I'm evil, i know.

Those are most likely Tegenaria males of some kind. Can't tell exactly what variety without a better look, but they are fairly harmless. They are capable of bites but probably wouldn't and they aren't medically significant (unlike T. agrestis, which those two spiders are not)

They are fast and active hunters and some people keep them as pets because it's exciting to watch them eat I guess.

Omg watching this makes me feel like throwing up

Imo a crushed spider in my house is even nastier than an alive one, but the one time that kind of spider showed up in my house I threw a can at it and waited for my dad to come home to capture and release it.

Although, cute tiny spiders I do let stay in my house.

ew ;w; it grosses me out when bugs have audible movements... all their nasty bacteria-laden exoskeleton-ness rustling together ;____; *shivers*

this type is a lot better than what flying insects make though >_< mosquitos and hornets are the worst

We don't have any dangerous spiders in Ireland, but these are the one that I fear. I know they are harmless, but they are really big and really fast and they are so big that you can actually hear them. I woke up in the middle of the night once or twice and thought i heard a mouse....turns out it was one of those mothafuckas in paper bags.

Because they are so fast I am too chicken to catch them, also I am afraid of them just finding their way back in the house, so I kill them dead. I let all other spiders live though.

There are few dangerous spiders anywhere, actually and most aren't nearly as dangerous as people make them out to be.

In the US people tell horror stories about brown recluse and hobo spiders and black widows but these aren't very dangerous to healthy adults - especially not the brown recluse or hobo. They can deliver painful bites if provoked but will not go out of their way to bite you and bites are often dry warning bites.

More people are killed by bees than by spiders.

sprinkles yeah, I'm not even worried about anything being dangerous....just thse big massive ones scare the hell out of me. I think I'm more scared of the house spiders than I am of that tarantulas. I like looking at Tarantulas, I don't know how I would feel about holding them. The other spiders I don't mind, and the jumping ones I think are adorable. We only get the miniscule ones, but I like to let them hop on me.

There's just something about the spiders like I posted in the video that conjure up fear. It's like they crawled strait from the puts of hell. Evil bastards. If they get in your bed they bite the fuck out of you. I had a couple of massive spider bites on my stomach one morning. Never found the spider, but the bites lasted weeks and were really itchy.
