Tarot For Beginners

One of the reasons not to purchase your own deck may be a bastardized notion regarding the power of gifts. Something that has been gifted has more power than something purchased. In Native ways, you don't "carry" something until it has been gifted to you. The implication that you just ask somebody to purchase them for you to get around this and thus have a gift--eludes the intent that something gifted has more power or that you have earned it.

I do not do tarot cards but I do use runes. I always felt a tiny connection to celtic ways as they are also tribal and thier designs are very close to those formulated by the Pacific Northwest Indians.
 
I think the gift is in the person already. The cards are but an instrument people use to enhance thoughts and feelings. I dare say the gifted person need not the cards at all. just my thoughts
