I do a few things ..I think someone said having an s/o helps Usually if you've got something big happening in your life or too much stress that can induce insomnia. I have a trial coming up(long story) and I was majorly stressed out. I think at one point I was getting about 2 hours of sleep per night. My muscles would get all tensed up and I would get muscle spasms all over my body. I had hideous nightmares that would wake me up at night. It was the worst experience ever. In any case I actually had to do alot of stuff to reduce my anxiety. I take magnesium for the muscle cramps as well as exercise 6 times per week. The exercise helps A LOT. I alternate yoga and walking throughout the week. The thing that has helped the most is getting outside and getting fresh air regulary. If I've had some big change and i'm stressed out I find that falling asleep with music on helps relax my mind. I live alone so sometimes just listening to something soothing can help calm me down.
