I mean "no, you're just jealous." not calling you a jelly; Discussion regarding which flavors of Jell-O...are probably welcome? no idea.

Were directly inspired from an article in Jezebel; http://jezebel.com/5916743/the-tyranny-of-shes-just-jealous

I have to hand it to the phrase "she's just jealous." It's pretty much the most perfectly infuriating thing someone can say to another person who is trying to have a legitimately critical discussion besides "relax." Simultaneously lazy, self-aggrandizing, and indicative of a pathological lack of self-awareness, "she's just jealous" does it all. It's a humblebrag! (I'm so fabulous that every possible thing I or this person I support does is not only unassailable, but envy-inspiring.) It's a quick and dirty dismissal! (You're wrong; I'm awesome.) It's a way to characterize enemies as petty! (There is no legitimate way to disagree with me! All disagreement is bullshit!) And it reliably shuts down dialogue; it's nearly impossible to respond to accusations of being jealous without sounding defensive. It's the idiot trump card.

Personally speaking, that sentence up there -is- one of the most commonly used deflection phrase, isn't it? No matter the gender... Although it sounds to be something usually spoken by the ladies.

What's your experience with this? Thoughts? Complaints?

But I am a jelly. :[

I liked this thread for the Twitter hash tags.

I am very fascinated by this stuff. I often wonder how our capitalist economic model affects our culture. First off, capitalism 101: every man should act in his own best interest and this is inherently what is best for everyone blah blah. It's interesting when this capitalist concept make it's way into our culture. Because while this concept might be true from a purely economic standpoint. It's obviously not true from a cultural standpoint. So when someone is being greedy or acting selfishly in their personal world and then justifying it by saying "she's just jealous", it's that capitalist mentality leaving the business world and making it's presence in the personal world.

"I fucked her boyfriend and now she's mad, I'm not a slut, she's just jealous"
"Sure I hardly pay my workers and I don't do any real work myself, I'm not a bad person, I'm doing what's best for everyone"

They are very similar. The only society I have ever lived in... well actually... nevermind. I'm not even sure if I live in a capitalist society anymore. But it's difficult to gauge the degree to which economic policy impacts culture when you have only lived under one government and one culture. But I wonder if this "she's just jealous" mentality is a result of economic policy or simply the way people are. Or if the materialistic benefits of capitalism are worth the cultural detriments.

I guess it works as an argument if you are like 12.

This argument makes me think the person is extremely egocentric and projecting their own motivation.

Capitalism.

Or it may be the 'every man for themselves' mentality.
Or the 'special snowflake' mentality?

Well. Without getting into gender issues, politics or economics, I do think many people the world over have a tendency to be petty, jealous and hyper-competitive little gits who lack the empathy to celebrate their friends' achievements or victories, don't enjoy hard work, and love to wallow in their fellow man's embarrasments, failures and flaws like pigs in poo, (ever watched reality TV?) and then justify their own problems by claiming moral superiority.

For further reference see: Ant and grasshopper, middle school children, and my moronic stepfather-in-law. Please note this comment does not refer to sweatshops or abusive businesspeople.

I am not in a good mood at the moment so you should probably ignore me.

This reminds me of a thing going on at my national guard unit where we shit talk and the first person to get mad is "catchin feelings" and is therefore mentally weak and inferior.

Oh good grief, I just read the article, which I probably should have done before responding. Yeah... based on the actual article, this sort of thing should end after middle school and has no place in political debate. Seriously.

And uberrogo, hopefully feelings will not be too contagious and you'll avoid coming down with a bad case of them. Sounds lethal. :)
