why the hate for rom-coms?

You should watch The Taming of the Shrew (1967) .
Laughably misogynistic. My mom and I were both yelling at the tv when we watched it on TCM. And that passed for romance at one time!

Good point. :) That was the late 60s, though, when women's lib was beginning to get noticed; I wonder if that had anything to do with it.

It would be an interesting study, in any case.

I like clever one...Love actually, Four weddings and funeral etc...Bridget Jones...Sorry, USA, I definetly Like British romantic comedies more:)))

LOL, oops, I insulted one you like. I did enjoy the vibrating panties, but that was mostly because my boyfriend (ENFP) kept squirming and burying his face in my lap throughout the whole part. He can't stand to watch embarrassing scenes. xD But vibrating panties have been an inside joke with us ever since.

I find it interesting that you call it "pornography for emotions" because I always make that comparison with romance novels. I don't see why married women get away with that while their husbands can't get away with porn.

No seriously hun, he just stopped by to lend me some butt-- margarine, that's all. Freudian slip.

Res: When nobody is watching I may just give one or two of those a try. Any all-time favorites amongst what you mentioned?

I think it actually might be cool to start a little movie club. It would be easier to participate than, say, the book club.

And I forgot to mention one of my favorites, Noi Albinoi. It's an icelandic film. A coming-of-age dark comedy/romance. Definitely not the typical light-hearted slapstick, but excellent nonetheless imho.
