  • Hmmm, I'll let NeverAmI/Deathjam know that you're having problems, and see if they can't figure out what is going wrong.
I imagined you with steam coming out of the ears to the tune of a steam whistle. 'twas great.
Unless they're more like Hitchcock movies or the plot is well done, most horror movies just make me feel ill. I can't stand watching them, and the blood/gore leaves an indelible mark on my brain. I can't see them, I really can't.
I will have to check her out. I've already snooped in the local bookstore and I think I'll get my paws on Parable of the Sower. I'm kind of afraid to check my library account now. I forgot I had a book out and accumulated a king's ransoms in overdue fees. :/

See, if you're just dipping your toes in the water, I'm trying to think of an author that is a little less heavy handed in his settings. I personally liked Joe Abercrombie. He's got a really nice, smooth and vivid style and he creates interesting, gritty characters. Kind of noir, but not quite. Check out "The Blade Itself" for a taste and see if you like it enough to continue with the other two books from the trilogy (called the First Law trilogy). His is a style I wish I could emulate in my own writing.

Yeah, I'm a bit daunted by Anna Karenina. It's been a while since I've read heavy literature. Hopefully, I'll push through it. If not, well... I have Butler's books to dive into!
Yeah, but it's my front for my bootlegging business.

I wish I was in Chicago. Big city life would be a nice change for a bit.
I'll be honest, I haven't really explored the strictly Sci-Fi. The first and only strictly sci-fi novel I've ever read was the Dune series, which I loved. I have no idea why I haven't expanded my horizons. From your enthusiasm, I might have to start with Ms. Butler. Which book would you recommend I read first?

My guilty pleasure have always been historical fiction and sword-and-sorcery fantasy. I can't even begin to list all the adventure novels on my bookshelf. Right now, I'm out of my element and reading "The Secret Daughter" by Shilpi Somaya. It's a little naively written, I'll admit, but the author has this curious way of dropping in the most beautiful turns of phrases that it makes you want to fare against a couple of pages of blander writing to discover more gold. Next on my list is Anna Karenina, because as a literature student, it is my biggest shame to have never read anything by Tolstoy just yet.
Pfft. Even if you weren't wickedly articulate, I suspect we're on the same wave-length a lot of the time.

You actually just inspired me to write a journal entry about that. I would love to know if you experience anything similar.

And yes... it's definitely a reading phase for me at this time. What's the name of the page-turner you have on your hands?
    T
That'd be so distracting if you did that during a conversation in real life.
