Were there foul intentions at play?
If it is true what you say, that one does not have the divine right to condemn others for what is wrong and what is right.... Then is it not the intention of what is being said more of value than the ethical value of the content?
Here's an extreme example
If I were a member of a cult that advocated human sacrifices because I believed that doing so would save humanity. My actions are no doubt, wrong. But my intentions are good. In this sense we may find it difficult to determine what is right and wrong, but we can always see the good intentions of others and of ourselves.
To me, in the end, it's not about what has been said or done. What truly matters are the bonds, those bonds are forged by the things we cannot see or hear. The intentions that bind human interaction itself. When there are good intentions at play, mediation is always possible, no matter how conflicting the ideals are. In my humble opinion, humans are always capable of reaching mutual understanding and respect, no matter what the circumstances.
Don't worry, just try it! There's nothing worse than living in regret and being scared to change things for the better.
