  • Sort of. What I meant to say that with Fi, you're ruled by your values and morals(whatever they may be) and when someone goes against those morals, you stand your ground even if it goes against a group consensus. For example, I used to have a friend that quit his job because everyone was planning to get their manager fired. It seemed like the most logical choice because the manager was a jerk. However, due to my friend's morals, he went against the whole group and quit instead of following what their peers were doing. You have your own sets of values, and even if everyone in this forum agreed to something that you weren't particularly interested in, you wouldn't do it, even though it might affect your relationship with them.

An Fe person would most likely do whatever the group is doing, because he/she feels as part of that group, and wouldn't dare to go against their wishes. Of course, this is also an extreme of what Fe would do, but I think it makes the point clear. In this way, Fi is more independent of outside influences than Fe is; but at the same time Fi may be seen as more troublesome and rebellious than Fe. Those two functions taken into extremes can be quite dangerous.
Edit: I take that back, actually, any function taken into the extreme is dangerous :p
The reason that I think that Ti is not seen as "cold" and "rigid" as Te is because Ti is not as visible as Te is. Ti is about categorizing, labeling and conceptualizing things internally, whereas, Te is about controlling the external environment through the use of objective measures and getting things done. So there's that bias that Te is more pushy and demanding, and with Ti-dominant people, what we actually are seeing is their perceiving function which is either their Ne or Se. Perceiving functions are always going to be more tolerant, and open minded than their judging counterparts, unless a judging value is violated.

In regards to Fi and Fe, people here in the west place more value to the overall group than in the individual. So people who use Fi may be seen as selfish because they're making decisions based on individual criteria, instead of the whole group. I don't think either Fi or Fe is better than the other one, but each has its function and role to play in society.

Personally, my problem with Fi is that I usually have to try really hard in figuring out what their values are, and making sure I don't violate any of them because then I get into trouble. My problem with Fe is that sometimes expressions may come insincerely just to harmonize with the group, and that they're constantly putting on this mask just to get by with others.
haha don't worry about it. That's the thing about any personality system Morgain, it's filled with many generalizations and biases. Sometimes it's really hard to look at things objectively when you've met people that fit those stereotypes. It's a good thing that you have an open mind about these things, it allows us to put into perspective the human element behind the cold and rigid process of these functions.
Oh, good! I am working (waiting for something, actually...) and getting ready for school to start next week.
It IS fascinating - isn't it? Yes - I too feel happy and peaceful when I can reflect on that singularly important fact. It reminds me to calm down and know we are all connected. If I'm lucky - maybe next time I return to this earth I'll get the chance to be a tree.
I wish we could sit and have coffee and talk long into the night Morgain. I bet I would enjoy myself with you immensely.
Why do you say defective wisdom?! I don't think your wisdom is defective.
I'm pretty quick to judge whether I think something is ethical or not ethical.. It's difficult to explain.. but I instantly get a feeling that something is not right or that something is off or unfair, and then I have to work backwards to consciously understand how I came to that conclusion. But it is a pretty quick process for me.

I usually get away with not upseting anyone about it because I have a way of quietly hesitating on the decision and saying things like, "Let's think about this a bit more." Usually, the group will talk about it a bit more and begin to talk more about how fair the decision is. If this doesn't happen, I voice disagreement and leave the group.. as in the example I gave in that thread.
I'm not exactly disagreeing with you there. It depends on how deeply and passionately the INFP feels about things. I'm not that passionate.
Thanks for the rep Morgain, I'm happy that you found some solace. have a good night and maybe we can talk soon!
