Well, if that's their nature, then there is not a lot you can do about that. All you could do is anticipate how they'd feel and tailor your "coming out" (lol) in a way that would make it easier for them to come to terms with.
I don't see how they would feel betrayed, because everyone does that. You don't tell people about a certain someone until you know it's a sure thing and it it develops into something real. They'd wanna know about it, when you know it's good to tell them.
