  • you might want to make sure there's a recent valid restore point. Many people unwittingly leave sys restore disabled, so there's no restore points for them.

    Yeah, scan's definitely helpful. I mean, it never hurts...
    if system restore has a valid restore point that's recent i'd recommend it.
    unless you've been running without AV, malware's not the most likely culprit. It's more likely that it's either a driver and/or update issue.
    i was going to say if you want me to take a look when you come home i can, but not much i can do remotely if you cant log in lol.

    Im assuming you've used this before and it's not a clean install? Any major changes to the system?

    If you can log in, i'd recommend doing a system restore Start > type System Restore. And then trying the updates in batches the next time. Again though, if you cant log in, not much use.

    I'll let you knwo if i think of anything else.
    two things:

    1) personal or work computer?
    2) did it update prior to hanging on the preparing Windows?
