7 billion people in the world

Lol. Yes, but a virus is not an animal. Alas, it's only a movie; but there is some truth to what he said.

Overcrowded animal populations of any species, including ours, are almost always eventually decimated by disease.

Overpopulation just isn't an issue, as long as viruses continue to mutate and antibiotic strains of bacteria become more prevalent.... that is, unless our medical sciences advance more quickly than at present.

Well, here's a relevant article on the continual effort to combat the spread of viral diseases: Gamers Solve Molecular Structure

It's successes shall surely exacerbate overpopulation worries though. If it's not disease, then it's war and famine.

The world population has actually been over 7 billion for quite some time. The reason is that the population of China is significantly under-reported due to incentives for government officials that are able to keep population down in their area. It is a similar accounting problem to how the amount of grain to be collected for taxes was systematically over-reported after the Cultural Revolution, this causing the tax collects to seize more grain than was available and forcing people to starve in some areas.

I don't have anything to prove this and neither does anyone else because it is illegal to do a census in China without government permission. I'm pretty sure it is true though.
