Corona / Wuhan virus

Well, it is connected to your phone

I'd imagine it would cause issues with GDPR in the EU if it did, if that data was transfered to a source server.

Then again the EU has always been shite at enforcing its own rules...

Serious Q: When experts say that 40-60% of the population could become infected, do they mean that if no measures were implemented?

Otherwise, I really cannot see it happening. Once strict measures are implemented (like in China, Singapore, HK, Taiwan ), the curve seems to flatten relatively fast. What am I missing?

There is always a lag, but I expect Italy numbers to calm down as well after the recent measures.

I don’t think it matters anymore that the numbers for Corona are lower than other diseases.

Cities shutting down, universities and industries shutting down, events getting cancelled, businesses closing, and the stock market taking nose dive after nose dive all mean the Corona virus will influence our lives whether it is a scare or pandemic. Some people are already without incomes, some students are homeless, and it is having a sharp effect on the economy. It’s funny right now that markets have run out of supplies, but if shipping shuts down, it won’t be funny. I’m not trying to make people panic. Just buy a few extras during your shopping so you’re OK if we are quarantined and try to prepare for economic hardship.

I’ve lived through hard financial times in the past. The economy can shape your lives. It can dictate the job and career you will have, whether you will have kids, where you live (both the place and the home), the people you meet, your healthcare and wellness, your life goals, your retirement, your future.

I’m not trying to be scary. I’m just saying that whether or not this virus is a pandemic, it is something worth preparing for.

Absolutely, but I am still more scared of pandemic than of economic crisis. Or at least it's better to have a financial crisis without the pandemic than with it.

That's why I am thinking about those numbers (40-60% of the population infected) and try to think what where the assumptions that led to this terrifying numbers.

We are where we are. I would sign without thinking to "just" having a recession to deal with.

Absolute lockdown is not possible because in this day and age, no city is capable of surviving without trade. There are multiple stocks required by any settlement. Of these, livestock and humans are most susceptible to the COVID19. Hence, it is necessary to strictly regulate the flow of these stocks to significantly reduce the chances of spread. Goods, however, should still be supplied and used sparingly. Production will significantly slow down and hoarding will only weaken the defenses of cities. Panic buying will only hurt you more than give you gain. Imagine misplaced stocks. It's like loading up fats and carbs on your tummy instead of in your boobs. Imagine hospitals running out of sanitizers where the disease is more likely to spread. You in your household of 3, however, has a mountain of it. Cargoes can still come in and out of cities but people handling these goods shall be treated as front liners. They should be equipped and protected. Being a hoarder means you're the type of person who lets people die for your selfish gain.

Capitalists hoarding for economic gain are ass shit opportunists. Buy stocks if you wish to maximize profit out of this. Capitalizing on human frailty is plain ass sadist. Meanwhile, people politicizing this are also flatly idiots. This is a crisis against humanity, not your political opinion. Fudge off. You are no worse than that asshole who screams and throws an axe for access to one roll of toilet paper.

Stay sanitized. Practice good hygiene. Get some sleep. Stay healthy.

Unless of course you're like Hitler and you like people dying, then by all means, carry on.

and today the "white house", whoever that is. . .is trying to clean up the mess made by donny last night. Funny, there is no travel ban for places that have trump properties. .
Bernie and Biden both cancelled their political rallies....but Trump is going ahead with his of course!
I don't wish this on anyone, but if you have been informed and still choose to act foolishly, then your fate is your own doing.

Supposedly, once between 40-60% of the population has been exposed the curve starts to level off and then fall...we shall see oh wise statisticians.

I don't get this shit but someone from my alma mater mater posted it. I'm like, there are lots of smarties here in this forum. This should reach as many experts as possible.

to help: some definitions :)
  • DOH's website = Department of Health's website (assumed US)
  • PUI = Persons Under Investigation
  • ODE = Ordinary Differential Equation
  • System of ODEs = Related data of ODEs. Simplified: A set of results, graph in this case, that shifts and warps as parameters shift. Each data point is related to the prior in some aspect that gives meaning to the results.

Interesting to see some data plots, thanks for sharing!

Take the results with a grain of salt though: there are many parameters involved, and the data is only as good as the care in which is was reported, which seems to be on the rough side these days.

They wouldn't let her test people who needed to be tested.
That's in Boston where they have the kits too. The south east region has zero kits, hence why all maps show us as having no data.

South Korea can get this right, but the USA keeps tripping over our own shoelaces.

I think there is a definite cultural and age difference between your reaction and some others. It's possible some people are reacting differently than you are because they've experienced some shit before.
