Do you think that the MBTI system itself is at least partially responsible for the INFJ unsureness regarding their own type? One reason being the INFJ aversion to being put in a box?

Could be. I think INFJs question their type often b/c they realize in order function in this world, they need to develop the other attributes. Feelings don't pay the bills. I also think INFJs don't understand themselves. This never-ending quest to dig deeper into things includes themselves. It's running a race that doesn't have a finish line.

Sort of, but not Kirsley's or Jung's "INFJ" It's more the stereotypes surrounding INFJs that got muddied in my opinion. And it seems that largely happened due to mistyped INFPs and ISFJs. You also have to keep in mind that it's an umbrella not a box, so someone on the far right side of the umbrella may look different than someone on the far left side of that same umbrella.

Kind of a chicken-egg, questions, no?

Does the label made the character, or does the character fit into the label?

Agreed. A lot of the descriptions of INFJ's online are kind of extreme. There's a development trajectory too. I like the idea of functions because people do use their abilities differently depending on things like maturity and situation.

I don't find it confusing. *shrugs* I've never questioned my type.
