Sadly, James Horner passed away yesterday in a plane crash in California; he was an avid flyer and was piloting a military trainer he owned at the time.

Horner has composed the scores for over 100 films including well-known ones such as: Alien, Star Trek, Titanic, The Amazing Spiderman, Avatar, Field of Dreams, Apollo 13, Land Before Time, A Beautiful Mind, Braveheart among many others.

That's a bit shocking and very sad... such a brilliant, talented, and well-loved person. Such an icon in film scores.

I'll never forget my amazement at how he evokes those sounds from a harp. I love the sounds of the ancient instruments in these new creations.
