I think part of the problem within this thread and discussion is the lack of understanding. Going back hundreds of years, women were not individuals; they were property, and whatever the man said was law. So if a woman happened to be raped and she reported it, the burden of proof was on her to prove it, and more likely than not she would've been called a "loose woman" because of it.
This mentality has been going on since the mid-1960s, until women were finally treated more as equals than as the "weaker vessels."
So by saying a number of women falsely accuse men of rape, well...it hearkens back to that time when women were seen and not heard. Of course no one means to do that, and it's understood, but women just got their right in the past 40-years and there hasn't been enough time to repair the damage done by women who were ignored for so long.
On the other hand, there are also groups of immature women out there who cry "rape" because they're angry, vindictive, or just plain spiteful - or they're ashamed that they slept with someone and got caught. And unfortunately the more they claim "rape" the less likely the real victims get someone to believe them.
Case in point? This discussion. It becomes harder for people to believe a rape has truly occurred if they know some people are out there proclaiming "rape" when rape never occurred. How sad is that, anyway--? A real rape victim cannot get justice and a falsely accused man has his life ruined forever.
Rape should always be taken seriously, but it can never NEVER be used to "punish" another human being if the crime never took place.
