It tends to take the US an unfortunate length of time to legalize things many other nations do long before them... To legalize things that should just be a basic right in the first place, without needing legislation in place to ensure individuals are free to do them.

The US is not alone, trust me... do you know that in Geneva, the city of neutrality and democracy, gay marriage is still illegal?
