[PUG] Robot Slaves: Would you buy them?

If I did, I would treat them kindly (just like I treat everything that belongs to me); provide them with maintenance, upgrade them with the latest features, scan them for malfunction and take care of fixing them.

If they are interactive I think they would be more of pets than slaves really. You can own and use a dog to hunt and protect, does that make it your slave? :noidea:

INFJs will love anything that comes their way (and maybe have sex with it) - except humans.

Right, if you had a person whom you had do menial tasks that you didn't pay them to do, fed them food strictly out of can and bags, forced them to sleep in a wooden box outside or the foot of your bed and tried escape every time you opened the front door you either have an infant or a slave

I had to read through that several times, it made no sense to me, until I understood that you didn't ask me a question.

I try to end my questions with question marks.

Was your no a response to Whether or not dogs our are slaves or to my yes?

Neither, I was answering the original question.

Seams as I should have read through the thread though, my bad.

No that's my fault, I should have checked to make sure that the post didn't coincidentally look like it was response to mine.

right with that out of the way, let's just ear mark the post by saying it explains why dogs are like slaves.

I would want robots for maintenance and, if possible, simple financial tasks like buying groceries and paying bills. Boundaries and procedure programs could be sold in "packages" to create specialization and structure. Having robots would create a job market, as they would need repairs and upgrades to retain functionality.

What owners decide to do with their robots is, of course, their choice and responsibility - technology is a tool with benefits and consequences.

The moment she was given a name it was very clear she had feelings...there's even a hint of it when she first comes online in the way she says 'yes'!

That vid raised a lot of questions/issues

Nice to see the strength of the human spirit win out in the end....not just in her but also in the programmer that let her live

You know what this thread needs, a definition of slave.

So here is what Google gave me.

Definition of SLAVE

1
: a person held in servitude as the chattel of another

2
: one that is completely subservient to a dominating influence

3
: a device (as the printer of a computer) that is directly responsive to another

Well then, a robot would be a slave if we owned it, it was subservient to us, and we commanded it to do whatever. Unless of course we bought a robot with the intention of setting it free. I'm not setting my dishwasher, lawnmower, or vacuum free. Just a few aimless, random thoughts.

Yes, I would get one, probably many.

But I wouldn’t treat them like slaves.

I would be far more interested in getting them to reach their potentials, being a new kind of creature superior to humans and all, regardless of society’s views of them.

Especially if they were like the one in the video. Which was cool btw.

It is really exciting that humans can now create computers that are so complex and intelligent they are tripping the bounds of conciosuness. The created are becoming the creators, and our creations can also be creative!

Who programs the programmer?

I am program, programmer and that which is programmed.

Truly, I cannot know what you are. Conscious or not, aware of your own awareness or only a program running a machine. But you are only you, yes? This is the marvel. You cannot be other than what you are. Isn't this enough?
Some quotes from Zindell

I wouldnt want to use a robot slave to watch my children or prepare my food. There are some things I really enjoy doing and get much pleasure from the labour. All the human-living things are nice.

While I like the novelty of owning a robot slave, im not certain what I would actually use one for. Maybe cleaning and yard maintenance? These robots would have to be solar powered or run of some kind of green energy to be efficient.

What I am more interested in is mechansing the majority of menial labour. There are many jobs that can be done by machines, freeing humans up for more meaningful, interesting and fulfilling work.
The machines and robots dont have to be humanistically intelligent to achieve this mechanised workforce.

Things are going to get very exciting soon.

Apperantly there has been billions of dollars invested into android/humanoid bots. The industry that is championing this technology is the Adult industry. Go figure.
