As an INFJ, do you feel you have commonalities with autistic individuals? If so, what are they?
I am obviously not talking about those who are both INFJ and autistic, just non-autistic INFJs.
Communication is usually easier as I can be direct without as much social drama and can sometimes go more in depth on topics without risking burning out the other person. Neurotpicals generally don't like going in depth often unless the topic is of particular interest or hits home on some level.
In kindergarten I vaguely remember a guy in my class who was autistic. He was quiet and didn’t like to mix with other kids, because their loudness terrified him, and during playtime the two of us would sit in a corner in comfortable silence. I later learned that he only felt safe around me and that I had been a sanctuary to him. I guess for INFJs we are born with quiet introspection at an early age which separates us from more outgoing children. Maybe shyness is one thing we have in common with autistic individuals?
You’re right, I guess INFJs have a way of drawing people in, especially people who don’t like to mix with others, as we generally prefer to avoid social activities with a lot of people and noise.
I would agree with you on certain points but our empathy scores being off the charts clearly sets us apart. I have an autistic friend and I have been accused of being autistic by a few people. I think we're just so alien to the general population that they don't know what to label us. Overdiagnosing of autism seems to be a psychology fad right now.
