The Poo Thread

Ok this is one of the topics I have a hard time with, but maybe someone can offer some help/advice.

I had an appendectomy at the end of October and have been struggling with going sense. I have had pain, constipation issues (though my stool isn't hard), and can only pass pencil thin bits at a time. My doctor (who I think is a few fries short of a happy meal) said that I'm too young to have any major issues and it's just constipation, which has never been an issue, my intuition and body tell me otherwise. I did finally get a referral and sigmoidoscopy which the dr told my partner was fine. I have not been back, I can't get my dr to do anything and am terrified of the specialist after the horrible experience I had.

As far as the sigmoidoscopy, I woke up half way through and the Dr refused to stop or put me back under. I was discharged still in tears, hurting so bad I couldn't stand on my own, and taken back to the hospital later by ambulance due to the pain. My partner was more than agitated after hearing me screaming in pain for so long while he was in the hallway outside the surgical area and being unable to do anything about it.

My doctor is only willing to hear the symptoms she feels are correct, even when that is not what is going on. She will write down and insist upon me having type 1 stool when type 4 is more accurate. I have even had to go rounds with this woman over my family history of cancer. She claims it's not possible for my grandfather to have died due to colon cancer in his early 40's and is in total denial that my brother passed the day before his 8th birthday due to lymphoma. Yes, I am looking for another Dr, but having problems finding one that is both halfway decent and covered by my insurance.

Marinag all of that sounds awful! I say trust your intuition when it comes to your body and your impressions of your doctors. Keep looking for another doctor or natural practitioner. I don't live in the states, so I wouldn't have a good idea of what options you'd have unfortunately, but don't be defeated yet. Don't be afraid of getting your point across and arguing/coaxing/*cough*manipulating your doctor to try to see your point of view.

Until then, I recommend minimizing your consumption of meat and dairy and processed foods, and reduce your fibre intake if it is high. Try to eat soft easy to digest things like fruits (melons are good), and clean oils (coconut oil, olive oil, sesame). Stay hydrated. To reduce bloating, eat fruit/sugary things prior to intake of fibrous things (veggies, bread etc), and prior to intake of meat/dairy/protinaceous, or oily things (like if you were to eat all three in one meal, that order is ideal).

I have had a similar problem! I had my gallbladder removed last may and ive had poblem with my bowels ever since. I was actually hospitilised again after my surgery for simple constipation for almost a week because i was so ill from it...my body just ceased to work!

I've been to the doctor over and over and they haven't been much help. I'm waiting on a referral to a gastro at the moment. I took things upon myself though...it seems the surgery has changed me a little.
I changed my diet....i drink plenty of water, ive cut back on sugar (i have a sweet tooth) and tend to only eat junk the week before my period when imreally craving it, ive cut dairy out (or most dairy!) and ive cut back my wheat intake significantly. I tend to cheat with pasta once a week or once every other week, i havent cut it out completely.

Low fat for the most also. It's helped a good deal. I seemto have IBS like symptoms...mostly constipation, but the diet does give me releif if i stick to it for the most part!

I have always eaten a diet of mostly fruits and vegetables. I have always felt sick after eating anything greasy, and most processed foods taste and even smell "wrong" to me. I drink a minimum of 2 liters of water daily, and usually avoid sweets (although the last month I have been craving BabyRuth candy bars for some reason). Even as a child my mother would hand me a box of See's chocolates and I would take a bite out of one and be done.

I have a friend who is a Dr that lives across the country who is in shock at the lack of care/follow through by my Dr. I have lost over 20 lbs, that I couldn't really afford to loose, going from a size 6 to a size 2 in under 2 months. The one blood test she did showed an elevated white blood cell count (usually a sign of infection) and an elevated sedimentation rate (an indicator of inflammation), but she never retested or investigated further.

couldyou possibly have some sort of blockage after surgery?

I arrived at the end of a conversation this morning as someone said, "... it was watery, though. And had bits of rasberries in it."

My first question was if he was okay because a BM of that sort can't be healthy.

what was the conversation actually about?

That was the thought and why I had the sigmoidoscopy, which apparently turned up nothing. I wonder if I may have an adhesion from the surgery that may be the cause of the problems.

i just wanted to pop in and say that the stores are selling these fiber gummies that are delicious, and they werk really gud at giving you that little extra fiber boost.

Oh man. Spicy shits are the worst.

I thought I would die while my body was getting acclimated to this cayenne drink I was making for myself and drinking every morning. It was torture. But eventually my body got used to it thank god.

I wasn't just doing that to torture myself by the way lol, my reason for doing this is I was trying to help my blood pressure go down and cayenne is very good for circulatory issues. It did help, but it took a while to take effect.

I forgot, but I'm obligated to post this also:

I would just like to say that I am extremely impressed (and a little bit unnerved) at the level of seriousness everyone has maintained throughout this thread. :clap2:

Niffer only looks nice and sweet, she'll cut you if you mess with her poo thread.

Marinag Pain pills and Tylenol can cause you to become constipated easily.

I've poo'd 3 times in under an hour.

No, it isn't THAT kind of pooing either. Completely normal poos. I think I probably lost like 3lbs in the last hour.

No idea why, maybe body making up for the last few days of my 1 miniscule poo a day routine.
