Tolkien

I read the books (four-book boxed set - gift from Mom) three times, first time in 1973, during the war, while I was stationed over there. Now that I have the DVDs, I haven't picked up the books in many years. I still have them.

It surprises me that many of us have this interest in common. I don't spend a lot of time pondering this tale (or tales), but I found them enjoyable reading, and sometimes found myself still reading at 6:00 am, when it was time to get up and go to work.

Do reread the books - the films are good but nothing like as good as Tolkiens original. A big issue is that the films had to compromise the true story in order to fit with the publication constraints of their medium. They did a good job of it given their situation, but the books are much deeper and more profound.
