War Business

Anyway, it's blowing over now.
Analysts surmise that Iran could choose to annihilate Israel and put Netanyahu on trial. Israel is reportedly getting weaker now and countries involved are reportedly more willing to go to the negotiation table via the UN. There are still a lot of weird gaps in that possibility, however, like I actually wonder that personalities like Netanyahu and Trump would agree to whatever compromise that is being concocted.

That said, because these are real time events, no prediction could fit absolutely even for INFJs and their intuitions. The volatility of the danger however is clear and present. The next few days down to the weekend are reportedly crucial.

the entire population of Israel would make a wonderful addition to the US.(i am not kidding)

My thoughts in this regard are immaterial. The law, however, is very clear indeed. Members of the military are not civilians.

Associated personnel, yes, they are civilians.

Regardless of peacetime status, it has long been accepted that a first strike is to be carried out on a military target. Japan did exactly that.

Cheers,
Ian
The rules of engagement also state where engagement is considered to be acceptable.

You might say that I take it a little personal because my grandfather was out there on a navy ship that was bombed. His back was broken and his entire life was spent in a handicapped state. So, it directly impacted my life.

I don’t believe that nuclear weapons are ok for anyone. I’ve looked at why the action was chosen and it all pains me to even think about it.

As it relates to this thread there is a serious concern about Iran having access to nuclear capabilities. Israel is obviously the primary concern because Iran has been aiding the Hoothies in Yemen and there are attacks on cargo ships attempting to enter the Red Sea. I also think (not for certain) Iran has also been indirectly involved through the attacks in Gaza.

Personally, I wish the US would stop being the world police and instead focus solely on our country but I know I’m in the minority and simple logic suggest that a disengagement would be perceived as weakness and likely result in aggressive and persistent attacks.

So, this takes me back to the reason Israel was installed as a government. Without understanding the reason why, then we cant understand if military engagement in that region is considered acceptable by a government.

One thing is for certain, a destabilized Middle East effects the entire world.

At that time neither Hawaii nor Puerto Rico and the Philippines were clear cut US territories. Both Hawaiians and Filipinos were pushing back against American presence in their lands and both lost to the US. The American People weren't particularly interested in either Puerto Rico or the Philippines, which were sold to the US by Spain along during the resolution of the Spanish American War. There were too many revolutionaries, allegedly and they didn't care for it, but they liked Hawaii.

The damages that Pearl Harbor endured were minimal compared to the damages in Manila. Yet, the attack on Pearl Harbor was allegedly a carefully concocted imaging by F.D. Roosevelt to justify American participation in WWII. Japan wasn't attacking to attack the U.S., it was laying claim on Asia-Pacific territories. The U.S. wanted to participate because it needed to expand its empire and sustain the growth of its economy. WWII fueled U.S. economic growth thereafter. Philippines and Puerto Rico continued to be de facto territories through unannounced puppet governments while Hawaii was voted into a U.S. state.

Thank you for sharing the information. I did do some research and I’ve looked at several books of similar content. I finally had to put it away and just let it all go.

When I was working on my undergraduate work I took Japanese and went to several of the functions with expatriates, teachers, and students where culture and activities were involved. I personally love the Japanese culture and the idea of nuclear bombs on that country is inconceivable.

The truth is that the people of a country often pay the price of stupid decisions made by politicians who think they can play God. The greater the power seems to increase the level of delusion.

Oil prices have to be low to fight a war. I worked for an energy company and we had optional lunch and learn sessions every day. Most of the time it was health related but they did a series on the history of oil and gas. In the documentary series they specifically talked about one of the biggest reasons for the Nazi’s loss in WW2 - it was because they didn’t have enough fuel to complete an effort in flanking the Russians.

Low oil prices increases my concern because it says that big money (and power) will give up profits for a reason. Big money doesn’t like to give up profits EVER!

That might be so, but the oil markets always spike when there's an actual (threat of) war. Check the price of oil in the weeks and months after Russia invaded Ukraine.

The "nothing ever happens" razor was sharp again. We can now say that US bombing of Iran was tremendous success. No boots on the ground, limited casualties, Iran weakened and forced to submission.

This thread is doing bad things to my confidence in america's situation. Knew we were in "decline"...had no idea how far down that rabbit hole we've gone. China, Russia, leaders of the new world order? Jesus Christ!?!

The new world order is going to be interesting because China as the rising hegemony is actually pushing for multipolarity. It's pushing for Euros, US dollar, and Renminbi as reserve currencies. I personally find this diversification hopeful. It distributes economic powers. In my mind it is more leaning toward regional balance than hegemony.

With that new order, US remains a leading force though not the sole force, if US should take the challenge. I imagine it's a good opportunity for the US to shift toward degrowth and sustainability as what Europe has been working for.

Fuck all of them. I wish current global leadership the best of luck with all they're into.
