It's absolutely fantastic. You are basically the same as a lay guardian ad litem (a volunteer who is somewhat like an attorney.) When I am given orders to be a CASA on a child, I have full rights to obtain any information on that child (medical, home inspections, school records, talk to therapist, etc, etc.) It's amazing. I find as well that once the parents start working on their case plan, are making strides to clean up their act and reunify with their child, I almost become their advocate as well. Often times in deprivation cases a Guardian Ad Litem (attorney) is assigned to the child, but they normally carry a high case load and cannot give each child the attention they deserve. CASA looks very good on a resume, I will admit that forthright to you. How exciting! YAY!
