Damnit I hate when I hit backspace and it loses all I typed! If you are coming from the north you won't pass Des Moines. You want to take I35 South to Highway 20 (US-20-E) and take that East to I380 South which will pass through Cedar Rapids then to Iowa City.
I have to work till 5pm CST on Friday and I am the only one working so we might not be able to meet depending on when you are making the drive. If you are going to be travelling later in the day, we could work something out.
If you are entering the state on I35 then you just need to head north to around the Des Moines area and then take I80 East to Iowa City. You should let me know when you plan to hit Des Moines and we can meet there and have a meal.
