Corona / Wuhan virus

It's time to pull the politicians out of the equation in regards to making decisions. Their end game is really one thing only, to ensure that they are re-elected.

Instead we need someone to take charge that can make the hard decisions, tell people the honest truth, and ignore sentiment and be pragmatic for the betterment of as many people as possible.

I feel so far the rhetoric that has been spouted, the decisions that have been made, the responsibility avoided have not helped.

Having politicians at the top of the heap in a crisis like this starts to turn it into a fiasco

Thanks Obama.

Honestly .. i don't feel anyone who has ever been in politics is the right sort of person. Regardless of how they come across, they didn't win their way to the top by being nice to or about others.

I think we need someone that will "suffer" personally for the decisions they make. By that I mean that they're empathic about it. They look five steps ahead. They hate every decision they make because they can't win either way, but they keep making those hard decisions. They stay up late into the night thinking about their next step, and whether the last step was the right one. Genuinely caring about everyone and suffering for it so that they do the very best they can for the species as a whole.

In time of war, politicians take more of a back seat to the people that are better suited to making tough decisions. I think this is what we are talking about here, and this is a war, not between countries, but a war against the people. We need to treat it as such.

No no my guy! I'm with you! I was just, idk wtf I was doing. I've been having this feeling that people need to bypass government officials altogether and just people with people. Government really doesn't give a shit. Well, especially here in the States. I don't think just one person necessarily needs to stand up and lead, but everyone does. All people, all businesses. Everything and everyone for everything and everyone else. Help everyone, trust no one, be selfish and take care of yourself first or you can't be selfless and help others. Weird

I wonder what will be different about us when this is over. This is something that the whole world is dealing with right now. We're all pretty much sheltering in place or having our daily lives impacted by social distancing. People everywhere are concerned with catching this or at least maybe spreading this to others. It's so apparent just how interconnected we all are. How truly valuable certain work is now that was taken for granted before. Maybe how delicate our way of life is if we don't stick together and cooperate.

I am hoping that we will redefine what is good and useful, what is important, and what is not. who and what was with you during these times will be very telling for our personal future. speaking of which, I'm heading for the coast for a few days to get away . . less news, less noise, more ocean. . i think it will be good for the soul

It would be good for the soul, I think. I'm glad you're able to make it out there. Nature heals. I'm dreaming of finally being able to get out and garden to get my mind off things. Every day I go out to check on what's starting to come up but it's still too cold here. But at least we've been going on short walks. I think this may stretch on a few more weeks at least. I want to spend my days outside planting and observing life and forget for a bit about whats happening because it is isolating and kind of depressing.

This might be a silly question because the mindset of most people (especially western) is that medicine should be left to the professionals AT ALL COSTS. When you catch a cold or flu, what really can you do other than to just let it take its course?

What are hospitals doing in this situation that regular people cannot?
It's not exactly behaving like a flu. The virus is from the family of flu (corona viruses) but it manifests more as severe pneumonia. It attacks the respiratory system, so first the throat then the lungs. With normal cough, our bodies are able to react hence phlegm then we get to spit the virus out. For covid19, it inhibits phlegm production (hence dry cough) so then the virus is able to dig into your lungs until it can no longer process enough oxygen to supply to the rest of your body. It is found that those with hypertension, COPD, and diabetes or are taking medications to maintain their health are more susceptible since it expedites the virus growth. Their management for now is focused on strengthening the body particularly the immune system so that our bodies can react against it in the same way we fight the flu. This is why some medical practitioners are comparing it with aids and cancer because the virus multiplies like cancer and just like aids, it impairs the immune system starting with the lungs. So yeah, we probably can't sleep this one out unless we were quite healthy.

Ah, the hospitals have oxygen supplies so they put the victims in these bubble helmets to help them breathe. Those are running out too. :(

Actually we're even also running out of medical practitioners because they're also dying :(

And this is why I'm very happy I voted the Dutertes.

True. I think the biggest flaw of the system is when one part thinks it's not part of a whole, then they make all sorts of decisions that only benefits them. When will we all ever learn that one of us is actually all of us? Individualism is cancer, comrades. I'm all for free speech and democracy but these concepts used to further the asset of an individual is frankly and simply suicidal. Taking care of others is actually a defense mechanism because if every body thought this way and there wasn't a single individualist out there, even those who give of themselves too much will be taken cared of by an other. So when one is an individualist, I like to make them bleed. Rawr.
