I don't think Twin Spica has been mentioned yet, it's quite good in my opinion. It's about a girl whose dreams of becoming an astronaut are challenged both by her family's income and a tragic accident that took her mother's life when she was very young. On some level, that accident effects most of the characters and how they deal with both it and each other in this context is quite interesting.
Good stuff, inspiring and believable from a character perspective.

Already posted a list here, but I must add Kara no Kyoukai to an absolute must-watch list. Watched it recently and it is truly a masterpiece. :)

And if you're into comedy and mystery (plus shounen-ai hints galore), Kuroshitsuji I and II proved to be a thoroughly entertaining watch.
