President Donald Trump

Always get a kick.oitnof reading CNN. How completely detached from reality they are. It's unfortunate we can't do everything for Puerto Rico. Trump has shown excellent leadership where we can't say the same of our last President and hurricane Sandy. People's suffering shouldn't be made political but not course news station's like CNN don't care about it.

President Trump on Thursday praised his administration's relief efforts in Puerto Rico, telling reporters that his team is doing well despite "nothing to work with."

Speaking to reporters on the White House lawn, Trump said that his administration has done an "incredibly good job" at working to save lives in Puerto Rico, which is trying to recover in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria.

"We have done an incredible job, considering there's absolutely nothing to work with," Trump said Thursday.

Trump added that Puerto Rico's power grid is "gone," presenting additional challenges to rebuilding the island's infrastructure.

"And a very big question is, what are we going to do with the power plant? Because the power plant is totally wiped out," he said. "There is nothing. The power grid is gone."

Trump's response to Hurricane Maria's destruction in Puerto Rico has been sharply criticized by locals, members of the media, and members of past administrations who have called the situation a "disaster."

The White House said this week that some of the information being shared about the situation is outdated.

Trump on Friday continued defending the administration's response.

"So we have a lot of big decisions, and you're talking about, the dollars that you're talking about are really tremendous," Trump continued.

The president said he hopes to make a bipartisan deal with Democrats to fund relief efforts to the island. Local officials have said that power may not be fully restored to the island for six months.

"I'll be talking with the Democrats, and we'll be talking to Congress, about what we're going to do a little bit longer term," Trump said.

Trump said on Tuesday that Puerto Rico's geographic location makes relief efforts much more difficult.

"We right now have our top people from FEMA, and they have been there," he said at a White House press conference. "We are unloading on an hourly basis, massive loads of water and food and supplies for Puerto Rico."

"And this isn't like Florida where we can go right up the spine or like Texas where we go right down the middle and we distribute," Trump said. "This is a thing called the Atlantic Ocean, this is tough stuff."

According to the Associated Press, thousands of pounds of necessary supplies are sitting unused in storage containers due to lack of manpower on the island
The Hill

As usual the liberal media gets the facts confused. Very glad we don't have a liberal President to get confused over peoples lives again.

To the really wonderful people in some great states and stuff. Storms are bad, really bad. We have this under control... I dedicate this trophy to some really good victims. Golf is good.

Yeah, so I have friends and property in PR. I have connected with someone who just made a trip there to check on his property and family. There is a big problem moving supplies safely because airstrips and ports have been damaged and are clogged by PR's own administrative issues. It is in fact true that trucker's union in PR is now refusing to drive existing supplies out for distribution because they want $50/hr. PR infrastructure is a disaster. Landing aircraft and and docking ships is just a mess. There is not some active conspiracy to deny PR aide in their hour of need. The place was a sitting duck for a terrible natural disaster. It is unlike other US areas in that its power grid is incredibly old, it's major dams made of mud etc etc. This is not the fault of the US federal government. The widespread corruption in PR is well known to locals and anyone who has traveled there. I could tell you story after story. But in each case when PR gets funding for various projects, it is grossly mismanaged and outright stolen by their own corrupt politicians. The consequences are out of date electrical grids, emergency systems, ports, and airstrips. Now warehouses are bursting with federally supplied aide...which the PR people are sadly unable to distribute to themselves. I love PR and am so worried about my friends there. I am as heartbroken as the next person, but lack response to this terrible disaster is not the fault of our federal government in this case. Pic of San Juan mayor complaining about lack of US aide while standing in front of a bunch US supplied aide.

So chalk Trumps statement on the mass shooting to being total bullshit.
Clinton felt the need to chime in even though she has no say at all about anything? I guess she still can't accept that her corrupt ass is not President.
Can we get one leader to say something relevant? Wtf.

If this is true, then the mainland teamsters are crossing a picket line

To be honest, I'm always deeply suspicious when I see media criticism of trade unions. In the main, the coverage is negative, and unions are used as scape goats. The reality is they've been a driving force for the improvement of the lives of people, across the world.

That was true in the past. They have way out lived their usefulness.

yeah because now we can rely on the Government to protect the rights of labor, i mean the workforce.

It's interesting to me that the countries who most ban and restrict them, are communist. Trade unions need to adapt and change, but if anything I think the social conditions that led to their creation, are on the increase.

I see. So communism is a concern to you when it suits you.
Where I work they use the parts of socialism that benifit them and the parts of capitalism where it benefits them. I really don't expect less but or course in the end the worker gets the short end of the deal. I think something more...fair could be instituted but forgoing one corrupt corporation for another corrupt entity hardly seems to make sense.

I think if anyone thinks they'd have a better life under communism, they should try it out. I hear North Korea is easy to get to.

Trade unions don't have to be inherently political, that's up to their membership. If I were in PR right now I'd be delivering the aid to people.

But I've worked in places without a trade union. They treated their staff like crap.

Absent what @Stu has said, here in America the goverment establishes law that addresses safety etc for workers. That wasn't always true and at the time unions absolutely had a benifical purpose. They've simply outlived the need...at least here.

There's plenty of laws here. But without a union presence to ensure employers meet them ? They're worthless.

Unions do need to change, since globalisation etc. Their role is to ensure a decent workplace, and negotiate proper pay and conditions. I mentioned the communist part, as to me it's very telling.

They're "all about the workers" unless they want to be in a union. Funny.
