I'm not familiar with the sets of lyrics. For me, the sadness is in the melodies and in her voice. Some of these also seem more depressing than sad, but they are still some of the sadder songs I've heard.

Nine Inch Nails -- Hurt

and (and I can't beleive this hasn't been posted already) Joni Mitchells River.
 
Most of the -big ones- have been posted; "Tears in Heaven" would probably get my vote for saddest ever.

Though, this song happens to remind me of a family member who is now gone...
