Elements within the world hate the freedom people in the US enjoy and represent to the rest of the world. It apparently is seen as a very threat to their existence. Today we have any number of countries desperately trying to control their population all while that population says, “We want what America has, they have it, why cant we?”
Huh? I haven't met any Canadians, other than the rich ones, who want to have anything to do with America... and I was born and raised one state on other side of their border.
Japanese - Have a strong economy and come here in the droves... as tourists. They visit the sites, take pictures and go home.
French, Germans, most of Europe - Not a chance they're going to give up a government that actually provides for its citizens.
You have two groups of people that come to America looking for fortune and fame. The super rich that can afford our imbalanced system and take advantage of it for themselves (how many foreign firms own "traditional" American centers/buildings/sites again? Visit Rockefeller Center one day and my point will be clear as day) and their generally wealthy counterparts that can afford special medical treatment since they come from countries that provided all of their basic necessities for them at minimal cost, allowing them to save up a nice nest-egg.
Then you have the poor/3rd world/economically unstable countries who's citizenry only know America by name and our shiny lights in Times Square and Hollywood movies. Or the South and Central Americans who choose us out of convenience because we're the closest country they've got.
But here's a newsflash for you - why are they still poor and unstable? Because we made them that way! We convinced Portugal, Spain, Greece and a number of other, otherwise prosperous countries, to "convert" to our form of Capitalism. After they did, their economies went down the toilet the same as ours. We just went extended our credit line to pay off the collapse, an option they didn't have, so now they struggle after we've left them in the dust and basically said "sucks to be you".
You want to talk about the rest of the 3rd world countries? We've been raping our land of natural resources for over 200 years. There's little we haven't destroyed with our touch and most of our forests are fractions of what they once were. We then go to countries that were settled after ours and/or had a "bad childhood" with their founding European "parents" and tell them they can't touch their natural resources because we need them for A) the environment (see the Amazon Rain-forest for example) or B) our Capitalistic expansion (See Middle East and Africa). And, as is evidenced by the Middle East, we will go through any military channels we can to ensure we have access to what our multi-billion dollar corporations say they want.
So spare me the "they envy us" rhetoric. They would either be shooting themselves in the proverbial foot by taking a step back in progress, or we brainwashed them to think they "want what we have".
