" The INFJ Was Not Born — They Were Broken Into One"

Either we are chemical machines determined by the past, or we are beings capable of transcending trauma

This is exactly what hurt my noodle brain at the start of this thread

It is not an either-or situation but humans cannot grapple with outside the box thinking with this whole concept

Consider "free will" not being exactly what you perceive it to be
Or consider consciousness to be outside of this current lived experience in some kind of way

(Not you personally, this is for the greater conversation at hand)

I think we are all born with a starting point, which is our given nature and character and the environment into which we have been born. I think that we are here to grow, physically yes, but more importantly emotionally, intellectually and (for me the most important) spiritually.

The way we do this does impact on our personality - but I’d rather say that it impacts on our souls. However, it isn’t the circumstances that lead to these changes but the choices we freely make - especially the choices when life is hard. When we are born, we are lent the incredibly great gift of life. I cannot say easily how great that gift is - but it’s maybe easier for INFJs to see this than many other types. I only have to see all the people who could have been born and lived but didn’t - so many of them who could have been, but were not because I do. It’s so very humbling.

So yes, we can change our personalities as we live - it’s why we are here. But it’s not the best way of expressing this - it’s rooted in developing our souls to the best of the potential we are born with by choosing well when we are presented with important choices.

This quote is a bit of a cliche but only because it’s so very on target:
