Ooh, a metal thread!
What? No Dimmu Borgir yet? ....and you call yourselves metal fans
Liking Dimmu Borgir isn't true metalheadism! They are for scenekids and wannabes!
Kidding: they even have some quite good songs.
What is it about heavy metal that people like? The melody, rythem, variations on a theme, poetry/lyrics....???
I think that I have just been approaching heavy metal the wrong way and that's why I can't appreciate it.
You need to ease into listening metal. It's not really a genre, but rather a way of playing and creating music. A philosophy of a kind, if you will. Metal overlaps with pretty much every other genre, creating the weirdest yet most peculiarly awesome bastard childrend ever.
Also, a lot of bad metal exists. For example: most of the American metal scene (especially the tired metalcore) is rubbish. This is but my humble opinion, please do not crusify me for it.
Let's get to the business:

I think that's enough, or even too much, perhaps. And I am well aware that this is not the heaviest metal out there. You'll just have to deal with it.
