What Are You Listening To Right Now (Part 15)

Beware of Darkness – “Muthafucka”

The Raconteurs – “Consoler of the Lonely”

hmm...verses sound like straight-up amphetamine abuse o_O

Battle Tapes – “Feel The Same”

I love the textures of the timbres, the mix and soundstage, and the juxtaposition of songcraft and style origins with the dirty electronics.

Battle Tapes – “Weight of the World”

Salvation – “Kill the Noise” ft. Mija

@aeon

Battle Tapes and Beware of Darkness: you introduced me to two bands that I enjoyed exploring a bit on Spotify today. I like when that happens. :) Thanks!

No problem. :) I love the songwriting of Beware of Darkness, especially as reflected in the stylistic transition from ~2015 to now—dirty rock to NF singer-songwriter.

And Battle Tapes—I’ve been gorging because the mix of old-school comp with new-school timbre. Ear-candy for me.

“Etheriel”, by Lush

80’s dream-pop makes me happy :)

Me too. I love the earlier-period Lush—even had the opportunity to buy both Emma and Miki a drink before their show in Chicago so many years ago! ❤️

So your post is right on target!

…old-school comp with new-school timbre.

I’m intrigued. Im not musically savvy enough to get that reference. :) I’ve only heard of jazz players “comping” chords and google reminded me that timbre is tonal color…

What a cool way for you to be able to connect with them and show your appreciation for their music. I bet they dug that.

I can only think of three occasions where I’ve actually met an artist that I’m a fan of. it’s always felt awkward and made me uncomfortable. The most comfortable interaction of the three, where I felt most myself in the interaction, was at a festival when Anton from The Brian Jonestown Massacre walked by me in a crowd. We had a half second of eye contact and I said simply, “thank you”. :) He acknowledged my sentiment with the slightest suggestion of a smile and walked past. The other two had me coming away feeling basicly socially retarded.

I think being able to buy an artist a drink and nod to them from across the bar when the bartender pointed to whom it came from would be the best!

@ultrauber
That’s some smooth singing there. Reminds me of L. Vandross
