So when are you having me over for burgers?

I do a loosely-packed ball of ground sirloin dropped onto absolutely scorching hot cast iron then fully smashed with my 2-qt. saucepan and pressed into 2D oblivion for 45 seconds then fish spatula flip and 45 seconds other side.

result: juicy and fully cooked, crispy and flavorful edge from Maillard reaction, steam vapor prevents any stick

it is a bit of chaos because you are banging about and summoning demons, but it’s good eating, and can be entertaining for young children.

of course certain things are at the ready because they have been mandolined, diced, sauteéd, and so on, ahead of time, with whatever condiments are to one’s liking.

a nice variation is to do it with ground pork chop and top with Monterey jack cheese and Hatch green chilies when the weather warms up a bit.

Cheers,
Ian

Fantastic. This reminds me of going with my mother to see Mircea Eliade speak in Chicago when I was just a teenager, and then reading his Shamanism: Archaic Techniques of Ecstasy a short time later.

His work was a significant influence on my decision to try certain entheogens.

Best,
Ian

Dude, that's awesome that you got to hear Mircae Eliade speak.

lulz :P

I listened to this with just a nip of needle-dropping, and there were many points of interest.

There was mention of the “golden age” of giftedness from 1950s–1990s. Golden because there were resources and stimulus and mentors available for gifted children. It is sad to hear it has not improved, because my experience of things wasn’t good then. That said, there were those certain adults who would do what they could, and their impact on me is immeasurable.

Of course, this was UK-focused, but I don’t think this makes a lot of difference.

I now have additional reasons to explain my childlessness, and perhaps also why I have never married which are both beyond an individual reason.

I liked his idea of UBI for bellends who would be content to live a simple life if it would allow them to pursue their work.

In my case, severe trauma, undiagnosed and untreated neurodivergence, and being born into the wrong social class were all contributing factors to explain why I didn’t get the support I needed.

Cheers,
Ian
