What's your views on the ice water challenge thing?

My sister's husband posted a video on FB of him doing the challenge and it annoyed the shit out of me. I know his cheap-ass isn't donating anything to any cause.

There will always be morons (^^see above^^) that will do it because 'everyone else is doing it' with no intention of following it up with a donation. And then there are the people doing it because they see it as a fun way of getting the word out and raising money for a cause they believe in. Not everyone considers donating money towards a cause, so this raises awareness in those type of individuals. It puts the thought in their mind, which is good.

BUT the majority of them are narcissistic morons.

Seems to me that there are a lot of grumpy people on here. I tend to want to not do what everybody else is doing as well but these people are not doing anything harmful and who cares if some of them are doing it for the wrong reason at least it's doing some good. It's probably the closest some of these people will ever get to doing something for a worthwhile cause. I find it fun to see big celebrities dumping water over their head. Kudos to them for doing it because there are some I would never have expected to be down to earth enough to do that. I think we take ourselves too seriously sometimes...look at that...people having fun and posting it online...how terrible. So we don't like being the centre of attention and they do...I don't begrudge them getting the attention they are seeking. If it makes them happy and it's not hurting anyone why would I judge it?

This would be intensely more interesting to me if it were the ice tub challenge and where those that participate, get into a tub full of ice water and show how long they can stay in.

Am I wrong?

You say that, but wait until someone comes up with the "witch hunt - burn the INFJs challenge"

There actually is such a challenge. PM me for further details.

yes, you are.

One reason the ice bucket challenge is so popular is because anyone can do it anywhere. Aint nobody got time to fill a bathtub. Aint nobody got time for hypothermia. So now we got to raise awareness for hypothermia? WTF is wrong with you?

Somebody I know did that, filled a huge metal tub with ice and water and sat it in, although I don't think that he tried to test how long he could stay in it. That certainly had to be way more uncomfortable than just dumping a little bucket of water over your head.

Its good to see that I can always count on you for a pessimistic / negatively charged response. However I have to warn you its unneeded. I am already negatively charged to the max.

Then it's not harmless. I would agree with you if the challenge was to dump a bucket on somebody else but you're supposed to dump on yourself so you're not doing anything to somebody else. The only harm is if people don't like to be called out and challenged. I wasn't thrilled about it but I just declined. It wasn't a big deal.

I hope you were looking at my avatar as you typed this
I was . Thats undoubtedly why I threw up in my mouth a little... :)

I think that it is a good way to get people to be aware of a cause and to donate to it when they would otherwise have given $0. It's the most honest, wholesome-fun type campaign under this whole sort of social media campaign theme that I've ever seen, I think, even if it is tinged with social fakeness and waste (which I think is going to be unavoidable with any mainstreamed push towards helping a cause in this era).

I think that it is also a good way to bring people/social groups closer together as a result of it being relatively non-serious, especially in terms of subconsciously facilitating a general social direction that is headed towards increased social awareness and charity.

edit: ...aaaaand I just got nominated :/ will I do it? Idk.. 24 hours? I'm in Japan lol kind of tough

So.... I did not watch this when I read the link description. I see little reason to watch it. I firmly believe in an eye for an eye mentality. Meaning if you send anyone to prison what do they learn? They learn what being in prison is like. If you make each stand there and experience what this boy experienced what do they learn? They learn WHY its wrong.
Pissed off doesnt begin to describe it...
